• In California alone there are over 3 million on food stamps (YTD rise of 13.6%). California is considered a “multiple risk” state for WORSENING HOMELESSNESS - due to the fact of high unemployment, foreclosures, housing cost burden, doubling up (living with family or friends), lack of insurance etc.
• Nearly 80% of California households with incomes less than Federal Poverty Level spend over 50% of their monthly income on just rent.
• Many studies have been done on the economic and societal impact of poverty, several years ago the estimated cost to our nation of having children raised in poverty was over $500 BILLION – it is probably an even more staggering amount today.
